Water Pipes Used For Solar Water Heater Installation

When installing solar water heaters, three main types of pipes are used - copper pipes, PP-R pipes, PEX pipes

1. Copper pipes

Copper pipes are one of the most common materials used for residential water supply pipes. These pipes are usually 1/2 inch in diameter, although some homes have 3/4 inch copper pipes. This material is not prone to corrosion and can easily last for more than 50 years.

Other advantages of copper pipes include high temperature resistance, safety, and recyclability. This material can carry both hot and cold water and does not allow bacteria to grow in it, making it safe to use in homes.

However, there are some problems with copper pipes, the first of which is its main installation method. Copper joints need to be welded with a propane torch.

2. PP-R pipes

One advantage of PVC pipes is their long service life, as this product will not rust or corrode. Therefore, unless a PVC pipe is damaged by an accidental blow, it can be used indefinitely.

These pipes are also very easy to carry because they are lightweight, and since no welding is required, do-it-yourself homeowners can handle their installation. You will usually glue PVC pipes together, making them easy to use in tight spaces.

Low cost is another advantage of PVC pipes, as it is an inexpensive option compared to copper.

The main disadvantage of PVC is that it cannot carry hot water and has limited size options.

3. PEX pipes

Polyethylene cross-linked pipe (PEX) is an inexpensive plastic pipe that is commonly used in water supply lines. This material does not rust and is flexible, making it ideal for home applications.

This product is the preferred pipe for many contractors because it is suitable for many different connection methods. Therefore, it is compatible with many tools on the market. These standard connection methods include copper crimps, stainless steel clamps, push-in connections, and cold expansion with reinforcing rings.

Due to its low cost and ease of use, PEX is the first choice for new residential water supply pipes or when homeowners are replacing existing water supply pipes.
